COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “This ride, these four years, I think everybody waits for this moment to happen,” says Kaylin Ouzts, a USC graduate. For Kaylin Ouzts her college graduation has been a long time coming. “You’re always waiting for college to come and you’re like, ‘Oh these four years are going to go by really slow, you know I’ve got a lot to do,’ and then in the blink of an eye, it’s here,” says Ouzts. Friday she and thousands of others prepared to walk across the stage at the Colonial Life Arena. Ahead of Friday some, like Kaylin, have worked beyond the classroom and into the field. “My sophomore year, I had the opportunity to go do the Disney college program and I went down there for about 5 months and worked in merchandise and I worked in several locations,” says Ouzts. The hard work paid off, Kaylin already has a job. “I’m very lucky, I really am lucky because I’m one of the few,” says Ouzts. Yet for thousands of others, that’s not the case. Instead, they will enter the job search. Tom Halasz, Director of the USC Career Center says opportunities are out there. “What we’re seeing is an increase this April over last April of 139% increase in job postings,” says Halasz. Halasz says the most popular are supply chain, sales and health care. Kaylin’s career fits right in. “I will be working for a pharmaceutical sales company,” says Ouzts. But she is a little nervous about the graduation ceremony. “It will be a successful graduation if I make it from point A to point B without any falling,” says Ouzts. “I will be with my friends and I’ll have my family looking on and that’s really I could ever want,” say Ouzts. Columbia College will hold their graduation ceremony tomorrow. Former President Bill Clinton will be the guest speaker.
