The South Carolina Department of Public Health is announcing two additional deaths confirmed as being related to the winter storm that swept through the state this past weekend, bringing the total number of storm-related fatalities to six.

“We are actively working to get ready for this storm. We will work through the duration of this storm. And when it is over, we will continue to work until the roads are reopened and clear,” says Powell.
“The people of our great state expressed their confidence in me twice by allowing me to continue serving in this position. My family and I thank you all,” says the governor.
“The folks who are unhoused in this cold weather, they need a place to stay. They need to get out of this cold. It can be lethal to them if they stay out. Some of these folks are not in great health, so when they spend the night on the sidewalk shivering. We want them to make it to the next morning,” says Craig Currey, CEO of Transitions Homeless Center located on Main Street in Downtown Columbia.
“We had some scattered outages here in the Columbia area, but fortunately it was something that our crews were able to get back restored for most customers fairly quickly,” Long says.
According to Governor Henry McMaster, state government offices in Richland and Lexington counties will open at 11 a.m. on Monday due to inclement weather.
