Former Tiger falls in first Wimbledon match

Yannick Maden became the first former Clemson men’s tennis player to play in the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles draw since 1992 on Monday morning, when he squared off against the No. 9-ranked player in the world, John Isner. Maden, from Stuttgart, Germany, fell to the American Isner in three sets, battling tightly against the top-10 opponent, particularly in the second and third sets, at the All-England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, London, England.

Fireflies edge GreenJackets in series-opener Saturday

Dionis Paulino finished with three extra-base hits on Saturday – including a go-ahead home run in the sixth – and led Columbia to a 3-2 series-opening victory over Augusta at SRP Park. Paulino wound up a triple shy of recording the cycle on a night he tallied a career-high four hits. The Fireflies are back above .500 (5-4) in the second half of the season.
