Staley & McCray Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Dawn Staley, the South Carolina women’s basketball coach and three-time Olympic gold medalist, just keeps finding plenty to celebrate in Tennessee. Her latest is heading up the 2012 class of inductees into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

W. Virginia Baseball Hires Former Tiger Mazey

West Virginia University has hired Randy Mazey as head baseball coach.
Mazey has served as an assistant coach at TCU for six seasons. He previously was the head coach at East Carolina and Charleston Southern and is a former Clemson player and assistant coach.

Two Gamecocks Named Freshman All-Americans

South Carolina catcher Grayson Greiner and left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery earned Freshman All-America honors as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday. Greiner, a SEC All-Freshman selection, has played in 55 games with 48 starts and owns a .236 batting average (41-for-174) with six homers and 31 RBI and has been stellar behind the plate throwing out 17 runners attempting to steal throughout the year. Montgomery owns a 5-1 record with a 4.05 ERA with 51 strikeouts and just nine walks in 66.2 innings pitched.

Four Tigers Taken On MLB Draft Last Day

Four Tigers were drafted on the final day of the MLB draft on Wednesday. Junior righthander Dominic Leone was a 16th-round draft pick (#491 overall) of the Seattle Mariners. Senior infielder Jason Stolz was a 17th-round draft pick (#528 overall) of the Colorado Rockies. Senior utility player Phil Pohl was a 28th-round draft pick (#859 overall) of the Oakland Athletics. Junior righthander Scott Firth was a 32nd-round draft pick (#998 overall) of the Philadelphia Phillies.
