Francis Marion Shocks Gamecocks 5-4

A three-run third inning and a two-run seventh inning was enough for Francis Marion, who knocked off ninth ranked South Carolina 5-4 on Wednesday evening in the first game ever played in brand-new Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium in Florence, S.C. The Patriots, currently ranked No. 20 in Collegiate Baseball’s Division II poll, improve to 27-13 while the loss drops South Carolina to 24-10 for the season.

ABC Columbia MVP Willie Cornelius

Willie Cornelius is the definition of giving back to the kids in his local community. Since 1974, Coach Cornelius has operated a spring break and summer sports camp for Richland County children. Cornelius is an employee for the county and uses his free time to run these camps.

Greiner, Gamecocks Slam The Citadel 8-0

Freshman catcher Grayson Greiner’s grand slam home run highlighted a six-run seventh inning and junior left-hander Nolan Belcher hurled 5.2 scoreless innings in his first start of the year as ninth ranked South Carolina defeated The Citadel 8-0 on Tuesday night at Carolina Stadium in non-conference action. Belcher combined with relievers Tyler Webb and Hunter Privette for a five-hit shutout, Carolina’s third shutout of the season and second in the last five games. South Carolina is now 24-9 while The Citadel drops to 13-20 for the season.

Arkansas Axes Petrino

Arkansas fired coach Bobby Petrino on Tuesday and then scathingly dressed him down for unfairly hiring his mistress and intentionally misleading his boss about everything from their relationship to her presence at the motorcycle accident that ultimately cost him his job.
