South Carolina special teams coach John Butler is heading to Penn State. Butler is leaving the Gamecocks after one season to join the staff of new Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brien. Butler is from Philadelphia. He has also coached in the Big Ten Conference before, spending four seasons at Minnesota coaching special teams and linebackers.

Clemson running back Andre Ellington announced Tuesday night that he will return for his senior year. Ellington was Clemson’s leading rusher in 2011 with 1178 yards, the eighth best single season figure in school history. He was a major reason Clemson finished with a 10-4 record, a number-22 national ranking and the program’s first ACC Championship in 20 years.

University of South Carolina women’s basketball is ranked No. 24 in the nation this week in the Associated Press poll. It is the first national ranking for the Gamecocks since March 17, 2003. The Gamecocks are 14-2 on the season, including a 3-0 start in SEC play, making it the best start to a season in nearly a decade.
Junior defensive end Devin Taylor has elected to return to the University of South Carolina for his senior season, he announced Monday.
“I still have some things I’d like to accomplish at Carolina before I go on to the next level,” said Taylor.
