USC Women Win Home Opener

A strong night for the frontcourt helped South Carolina to a 60-53 victory over Alabama A&M in women’s basketball action Monday night at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks pounded the ball inside to junior Ashley Bruner and freshman Aleighsa Welch, and the duo combined for 27 of the team’s 60 points.

USC Men’s Soccer Gets Home NCAA Tourney Game

The South Carolina men’s soccer team earned the 20th NCAA Tournament bid in program history as the 2011 selections to the 48-team tournament were announced Monday afternoon. The Gamecocks (9-7-2) will host the first round of the tournament with Wake Forest (8-7-4) traveling to Stone Stadium for the Thursday night matchup.

Panthers Pounded By Titans, 30-3

The Tennessee Titans returned a punt for a touchdown in the first minute and never looked back against the Carolina Panthers. The Titans stymied rookie quarterback Cam Newton and won 30-3. The Panthers fell to 2-7 on the season.

New BCS Standings–Clemson #7, USC #12

With the annual state championship rivalry less than two weeks away, both Carolina and Clemson football are in the top 12 in the new BCS standings. Clemson moves up two spots to #7 after clinching the ACC Atlantic Division title with a win over Wake Forest. USC moves up one spot to #12 after beating Florida in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history.

Carolina Hoops Cruises In Season Opener

Freshman Anthony Gill scored 14 points in his debut to lead South Carolina to a 72-50 win over Western Carolina on Friday night in the season opener for both teams. South Carolina leaned on its newcomers of Gill and junior college transfer Brenton Williams, who added 13 points. All 10 Gamecocks who played also scored.

Strong 2nd Half Helps Clemson Hoops Win Opener

Andre Young scored 19 points, Tanner Smith had a career-high 14 rebounds and Clemson won its 27th straight season opener with a 65-44 victory over Gardner-Webb on Friday night. The game was tied at 29 at halftime, but the Tigers pulled away from the Bulldogs (0-1) in the second half behind the play of their senior backcourt duo of Young and Smith.
