D. Johnson In Hunt For $10 Million

Irmo native Dustin Johnson bogeyed two of his last three holes after a weather delay at the first round of the Tour Championship to finish Thursday even par. Johnson has to finish 6th or better this weekend to have a chance to win the Fed Ex Cup and its $10 million first prize.

NCAA Sends USC “Notice of Allegations”

The NCAA has sent South Carolina a notice of allegations to university President Harris Pastides.
The NCAA letter received Monday says 12 athletes in football and women’s track received an extra benefit of $47,000 for staying at a local hotel for a reduced rate. The NCAA also says officials with the Student Athlete Mentoring Foundation provided $8,000 worth of impermissible benefits and inducements for South Carolina athletes and prospects.

Clemson Jumps Into Poll At #21

Clemson jumped into this week’s new Associated Press Top 25 college football poll at #21 after ending Auburn’s 17-game winning streak Saturday. This Saturday’s match-up in Death Valley against #11 Florida St. will kickoff at 3:30 on ESPN.

NCAA Denies Byrd’s Appeal

The NCAA has turned down South Carolina’s appeal of the four-game suspension given freshman wide receiver Damiere Byrd.
The school announced Saturday that the NCAA’s committee on reinstatement turned down South Carolina’s request. The 10th-ranked Gamecocks take on Navy on Saturday night.
