Wednesday morning, the Mother’s/Father’s Voice program was renamed Riley’s Readers to honor former US Secretary of Education and South Carolina governor Richard Riley.
“This is going to be such an important step forward in helping us explain to parents, to the public, to interested citizens, how their hard earned dollars are being spent to deliver real results for our students,” says SC Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver.
“It’s a challenge today and if this trend continues, what we’re going to have in the future generations of an all volunteer force — is no force,” says Former South Carolina Secretary of Veterans’ Affairs, Will Grimsley.
“I don’t want my partner to be gone forever. I’ll never get to see him bouncing up and down when I bring him food in the morning. I don’t want to have the memories of his last moments that I do, but nonetheless, “Here am I, send me,” Hunton says.
“Just imagine if we could fill those 80,000 jobs. That would create billions more in economic activity, so that’s the challenge that we’re here to discuss today,” says Bob Morgan, President of the SC Chamber of Commerce.
“It is as important as electricity today. So when you ask, ‘What does this mean?’ This means… It’s a quality of life issue. It’s an educational issue. It’s a health issue. So, it’s meaningful on every level I can think of,” Gustafson says.
