Another long debated topic will be discussed now that Republicans enjoy a super majority, a more restrictive abortion ban.
In addition to investing in power and roads, the governor asks lawmakers to drop the state income tax to 6 percent, putting almost $200 million back into the pockets of South Carolina taxpayers.
The House and Senate returns June 5th to work compromises on a number of bills.
The Senate has been reluctant to take up an energy bill which has resulted in a reaction from the House.
Several bills have already been passed and many more will be debated and voted on over the next couple of months.
“I’m going to start out by saying that our number one bill this year is the ‘Help Not Harm’ Bill,” said Rep. John McCravy from Greenwood.
Senate majority leader Shane Massey says he is focusing on three topics ahead of the start of the legislative session.
Both chambers passed an almost $14 billion budget which includes income tax cuts and almost a billion dollars on road improvement.
Lawmakers will return June 15th and 28th to work on the budget, a select other specific bills and any vetoes from the governor.
