“You know you kind of forget how awe inspiring it is, to know that we are in such an amazing and expansive, not just galaxy but universe, if you really extend it, and it’s really exploring everything that’s out there, it’s just really incredible to see what’s out there,” says Van Syckle.
A total solar eclipse is passing over North America on April 8, creating a path of totality that will cast some parts of Mexico, the United States and Canada in darkness.
In just five days, the moon is going to soak up the sun over a wide swath of North America.

“First of all you don’t notice any pain. There are no pain fibers in the retina. So you’re getting this tremendous damage to your eyes if you’re looking at that sun unprotected, and you don’t even know it’s happening because it doesn’t hurt, but the damage can be profound. And then over the course of minutes to hours to even a few days, then the visual effects become apparent,” White says.
