The South Carolina Supreme Court has rejected State Treasurer Curtis Loftis’s attempt to delay a Senate-led effort to remove him from office.
State Treasurer Curtis Loftis says his attorneys have filed a petition with the State Supreme Court to weigh in on his removal hearing over a $1.8 billion accounting error.
In a fiery exchange Thursday, Feb. 27, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis testified to members of South Carolina’s “Finance Constitutional” Subcommittee regarding a 1.8 billion accounting error.
In observance of National Unclaimed Property Day on Saturday, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced Friday that more than 800,000 new properties have been reported to the State’s Unclaimed Property Program.
State Treasurer Curtis Loftis says thousands of South Carolinians have unclaimed money out there, and some of them have spooky names.
“We know that approximately 1 in 10 Americans have unclaimed property. Each year billions of dollars get returned to State Treasurer’s Offices across the country,” said Treasurer Loftis.

Today, the State Treasurer’s Office kicked off its ‘Happy HoliPAID’ social media campaign to raise awareness about the state’s unclaimed property program.
