SC National Guard band kicks off summer tour

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — The 246th Army Band of the South Carolina National Guard is kicking off a series of free concerts around the state.

The guard says the band is stopping at the Sumter Opera House Saturday for the first of nine shows.

Other stops include Sullivan’s Island, Newberry, Greenville, Clinton, Ninety-Six and Spartanburg. The tour wraps up July 4 with two shows in Greenville.

Thirty-two National Guard members serve part-time in the band. They also perform with other musical teams including a ceremonial band, pop music band and jazz combo.
