COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Shopping, food, even nightlife, it’s obvious Five Points, is catered to entertainment. But on the night of June 20, 2011, there was nothing entertaining about what happened to 18 year old Carter Strange. Police say Strange was savagely beaten while joggin home. Surveillance video from that night, helped catch the suspects. Carter had to undergo emergency surgery and facial reconstructive surgery. Just one week after the ordeal, we spoke with Carter and the scars were visible. Even worse, Carter does not have any medical insurance. but, help is on the way, two restaurants, Mr. Friendly’s and Cellar on Greene are stepping up to help by holding Charity Night for the Strange Family. Since the beating, the City of Columbia has implemented an emergency curfew. No one under the age of sixteen is allowed to be in the Five Points area, betweeen the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Columbia Police say, so far they’ve only had two violations. However, they have not had any major incidents. Extra patrols have also been added in the area, everyday. If you are interested in attending the benefit for the Strange family, the event will be held Monday July 25, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tents will be set up in the parking lot between Mr. Friendly’s and Cellar on Greene.
