SC sheriff getting jumpstart on National Night Out

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County authorities are inviting the public to celebrate the upcoming National Night Out with several weekend activities

Sheriff Leon Lott on Saturday is hosting a Pre-National Night Out event. The day kicks off with a 5K run/walk, with proceeds benefiting the sheriff’s department K9 unit.

There is also a light bulb exchange. People can turn in regular household bulbs and get four energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.

National Night Out is coming up on Tuesday. Lott says his officers will help communities plan events for that day as well.
