Decorated US navy surgeon to speak at 9/11 dinner

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A decorated U.S. Navy surgeon is sharing his story at a Sept. 11 anniversary dinner. Dr. Richard Jadick is the keynote speaker at a sold-out event Wednesday in Columbia that’s raising money for Lexington Medical Center’s health care programs. Jadick earned the Bronze Star with a combat “V” for valor for saving approximately 30 Marines during the 2004 Battle of Fallujah in Iraq. In 2004, the Navy lieutenant commander volunteered to be a doctor with the First Battalion, Eighth Marine Regiment. He is credited with setting up a makeshift emergency room amid enemy fire to treat the critically wounded. He treated hundreds during the battle and wrote about his experience in the book “On Call in Hell.” The “Doctor of Valor” event will also honor first responders and military members.
