Swinney aims to keep No. 3 Clemson sharp this week

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says he’ll walk a fine line this bye week between keeping the third-ranked Tigers sharp and not overworking them after a grueling camp and a rugged start to the season. Clemson moved to 2-0 for the fourth straight season under Swinney after a 52-13 victory over South Carolina State last Saturday. The Tigers get Saturday off before opening the Atlantic Coast Conference season at North Carolina State on Thursday night, Sept. 19. Swinney knows he’ll have to have some hitting among his first-team offense and defense at practice this week to keep Clemson crisp. He’s also seen his players work harder than ever to this summer to prepare and does not want to wear them down so early in the season.
