8 plead guilty as part of SC insurance fraud case

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) âone space€one space” Eight people have pleaded guilty in a fraud case involving BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina policy numbers. U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Friday that Malentha Robinson-Taylor, R. L. Robinson-Taylor, Robert Green, Kimberly Donaldson Broughton, Pamela Richardson, Latisha Brown, Cheryl Frazier and Lorraine Porcher pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud. Nettles says Malentha Robinson-Taylor worked for an Orangeburg dentist. Prosecutors say she and her husband, R. L. Robinson-Taylor, got people to give them their BlueCross BlueShield policy numbers, which they then used to submit claims as though those people had been seen by that dentist. Authorities say the couple and the recruits split the amount paid out, about $368,000. The defendants will be sentenced later and each face up to 20 years in prison.
