Haley signs in-state tuition bill for veterans moving to SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley has signed into law a bill that gives military veterans in-state tuition at South Carolina colleges and universities as soon as they become residents.

Haley signed the bill Thursday, about a week after it unanimously passed the House, The Senate also passed the bill unanimously.

The law will waive the requirement that someone must live in South Carolina for a year to get in-state tuition. It applies to any veteran who was honorably discharged.

Republican Rep. Bill Taylor of Aiken says passing the bill this year was vital because all veterans attending college in the state on the Post 9/11 GI Bill would lose their benefits this summer without the law.
