Teen arrested, charged as adult after man fatally shot

LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in South Carolina say a teenager has been charged with killing a man in Lancaster.

The Charlotte Observer (http://bit.ly/1LbGqVI ) reports Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies arrested 16-year-old Derrick Leron Stalk of Lancaster. Stalk is being charged as an adult.

Deputies say they responded to a call Saturday night after witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Deputies say they found 42-year-old Jeffery Dale Barrett lying in a ditch on the side of the road with apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Deputies say based on witness descriptions, they arrested Stalk, who is being held in a juvenile detention facility in Columbia. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
