Bridges around SC quickly coming back online
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — With flood waters largely receding around South Carolina, the reopening of state bridges is picking up speed.
The State Department of Transportation announced on Thursday that 73 bridges remained closed. That’s 21 fewer than were closed on Wednesday.
Altogether just over 250 roads and bridges remain closed because of the historic rains earlier this month.
The department says that the bridge on South Carolina Route 51 over the Black River in Georgetown County could reopen late Thursday depending on underwater inspections.
There was widespread flooding along the river in that area.
