Deputies: House fire caused by meth manufacturing

Richland County Sheriff's deputies say a house fire Saturday morning was started by meth manufacturing

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Richland County Sheriff’s deputies say a house fire Saturday morning was started by meth manufacturing.

RCSD Spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson says the RCSD bomb squad, deputies and Columbia and Richland Fire Departments responded to the 800-block of Ohio Street around 8 a.m. Saturday.

Lt. Wilson says investigators determined that 42-year-old Jeffrey McDaniel had been cooking meth in the upstairs of the house all night, when a bottle exploded in the morning, causing the blaze.

Authorities say McDaniel was taken into custody and charged with manufacturing meth, manufacturing meth within half-a-mile of a school, and trafficking. More charges are expected.

Deputies say two other adults in the house at the time suffered minor injuries.
