Lexington Police is asking motorists to stay alert and cautious when driving in public parking lots.

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington Police is asking motorists to stay alert and cautious when driving in public parking lots.

Authorities say parking lots collisions increased last month to almost half of the 135 wrecks officers responded to in Lexington.

Out of those 135 wrecks, 71 happened on the roadway, while 64 occurred on private property.

There are a few tips drivers can follow to prevent these accidents:

  • Always check several times before backing out of a parking space
  • Limit distractions and watch your speed
  • Don’t only depend on your vehicle’s camera

Officers say business parking lots are expected to be busy this week during the holiday season.
