Tyler’s Travels: The Biltmore Gardens and a certain flower mustache wearing mannequin
The Tyler's Travels Team hit the road to Asheville to check out the legendary flowers and creativity
ASHVILLE NC (WOLO) – The Tyler’s Travels Team went On The Road to Ashville for an inside look at the 8000 acre Biltmore Estate…and yes, we stopped to smell the roses.
The Biltmore Estate, nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina, is a historic home and grounds that is visited by over a million guests every year, however, it wasn’t built to be museum. The house, and the thousands of acres that surround it, was purchased and built by and for George Vanderbilt II, having been completed in 1895.
The home boasts nearly 179,000 square feet of breathtaking architecture, art, class, and style throughout its 250 rooms…but that isn’t the only story. Mr. Vanderbilt loved nature, which tracks with the fact that the original footprint of the estate was made up of 125,00 acres. Today, 75 acres of the estate make up amazing gardens, boasting plants, flowers, and more from nearly around the world. The flowers, however, at not only an outside situation. From the Winter Garden, located just inside the front door, to ever changing floral themes, there is beauty around every corner.
Tyler Ryan hooked up with Director of Horticulture, Bill Quade, to learn all about the famous rose garden, walled garden, tropical plants, and of course, the conservatory. The Team also got the inside scoop on how the interior Floral Team, led by Lizzie Witcher, instill life, season after season, with beautiful displays, inspired by the house itself.
