LEXINGTON SC (WOLO) –

Manmade Gourmet’s Love It or Chuck It: Big Mac Burger Bowls

So just because it is on the Internet, does it make it true?  Like if someone has a “simple recipe” that is bang on the counter good, does it really mean it is easy OR good?

Let’s find out.

This time, Tyler Ryan (The Manmade Gourmet) and Crysty Vaughan put together an alternative – and possibly more healthy version of the McDonald’s icon burger.

Per usual, we tried to stick, as best we could, to the recipe that we found…

There are only a few things you need for this one:

For the bowl

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef (lean preferred)
  • Salt & black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 4 cups chopped lettuce (iceberg or romaine)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes (halved)
  • ½ cup pickles (sliced)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup red onion (finely chopped)

For the sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp pickle relish
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder

How to make it:

1. Cook the beef

  • Heat a pan over medium heat
  • Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder
  • Cook until browned and fully cooked
  • Drain excess fat if needed

2. Make the sauce

In a bowl, mix:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Relish
  • Vinegar and spices

Stir until smooth and creamy

3. Assemble the bowl

  • Add lettuce as the base
  • Top with cooked beef
  • Add tomatoes, pickles, onion, and cheese

4. Finish

  • Drizzle generously with Big Mac sauce
  • Toss lightly or serve layered

THIS is where the inspiration came from!

Lessons learned / tips:

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version
  • Add avocado for healthy fats
  • Swap mayo with Greek yogurt for fewer calories
  • Meal prep friendly—store components separately
