SC turnout light across state in primary voting
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Turnout was light across the state Tuesday as South Carolina voters cast their ballots in primary elections.
South Carolina State Election Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire says he’s gotten reports from across the state of light to very light turnouts.
In Mount Pleasant, 21 voters cast their ballots. Poll manager Linda Ambrose said she hoped for 5 percent turnout.
Whitmire says he has gotten a report one voter did not find a certain candidate on his ballot, but the confusion arose because of redistricting and no irregularities occurred.
Hundreds of candidates have been decertified for the primary. The state Supreme Court ruled last month that the law requires candidates to file their economic interest forms at the time they file their intension to run. Many had not.
