Gov. Haley signs SC law on builders insurance

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has signed a law insuring that builders’ insurance policies cover damages resulting from defective work.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the governor signed the law in Conway on Monday.

Earlier this year, in a lawsuit brought by people living in condominiums in the Myrtle Beach area, the state Supreme Court ruled builders’ insurance companies did not have to pay because of the way state law was written.

Haley says the bill she signed is important because it clarifies the law. She says there is nothing scarier than to buy insurance, then find out it doesn’t cover what you thought it covered.
