Juvenile justice professionals to meet at USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Social workers and legal professionals involved in juvenile justice cases are meeting for their annual conference at the University of South Carolina.

A school spokeswoman said the Children’s Law Conference scheduled for Friday is expected to attract judges, attorneys, psychologists, social workers, law enforcement personnel and adults who work with children in the legal process.

The conference provides training and resources to more than 10,000 South Carolina professionals involved in child abuse, and neglect and juvenile cases every year.

Dr. Carole Jenney of Brown University addresses the group Friday morning. She is considered a pioneer in the medical assessment in child maltreatment cases. Dr. Desmond Runyan, a pediatrics professor at the University of Colorado, discusses research on child abuse and neglect in the afternoon.
