Red Cross assisting families displaced by home fires, reminds you of fire safety tips
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–As we head into the cold winter months, this time of year South Carolina typically sees a 30% increase in house fires, according to the Red Cross.
The Red Cross says they’ve already assisted more than 1,200 people in the Midlands so far this year.
Mandy McWherter says this is peak season for home fires and she’s reminding families to be mindful of the safety measures to follow. Those include, checking your smoke alarms and practicing fire drills, especially as we head into the colder months.
