Clemson in Top 11 by All Three Golf Polls

Clemson, S.C. (Clemson SID) — Clemson is ranked in the top 11 in the nation in all three major college golf polls and computer rankings this week.  On Friday, Clemson was ranked as the 11th best team in the nation by the Golf Coaches Association.  Earlier in the week Clemson was listed ninth by the Golfweek/Sagarin computer ranking, and by Golfstat.

Clemson won the Bandon Dunes Championship in Oregon on Tuesday against a 12-team field.  Larry Penley’s Tigers started the spring season with a second-place finish out of 15 teams at the Puerto Rico Classic. That field had six top 20 teams.  Last fall Clemson had a second place and a third place finish in five events.   Clemson returns to the course March 21-22 for a two-day, 54-hole tournament at the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Fla.

The Tigers are led by graduate student Stephen Behr, a semifinalist for the Byron Nelson Award, who has a 71.17 stroke average.  He has three top 10 finishes and five rounds in the 60s so far this year.  He is eight under par for his 18 rounds.  Austin Langdale is also a top 50 national player with a 71.56 stroke average and a pair of top 10 finishes.
