Here’s what to know if you hit a deer
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Experts say deer-related accidents increase during this time of year coinciding with the animals’ mating season.
So what are you supposed to do if you hit a deer?
According to the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Public Safety, if you hit a deer first move your car to a safe space and turn your flashers on.
If someone is injured call 911, if not dial *Hp (*47) for the highway patrol.
And lastly, call your insurance company.
Officials say the deer is removed to keep the road clear.
If you want to eat it, officials say you can take it to a processor with the incident report to prove it was not harvested illegally.
Did you hit the brakes but the hooves still hit the hood?
It happens. And if it does, keep these tips in mind.
