Former Gamecock QB Jay Urich, USC athletes surprise students with shopping spree

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Former University of South Carolina football player Jay Urich and South Carolina student athletes surprised elementary students with a shopping spree.

The shopping spree was a partnership between Urich and Academy Sports as they decided to spread holiday cheer to 20 students from the Original Design program at Cayce Elementary.

Original Design was founded by Urich to provide resources, opportunities and supportive relationships necessary for children to live healthy and empowered lives.

Each student received $150 Academy Sports + Outdoors gift cards and got help shopping from Gamecock student athletes and Urich.

The Thursday, Dec.7 event was the third consecutive year Academy Sports and Urich partnered to giveback to the community.
