SC AG Wilson joins multi-state effort to keep Trump on ballots
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is joining the effort to have former President Donald Trump’s name restored on the Colorado GOP primary ballot.
In December the Colorado Supreme Court ruled Trump was ineligible due to his actions on January 6, 2021 arguing that it was in violation of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution which prevents anyone who participated in insurrection from running for public office.
According to a news release, Wilson has joined a 27 state effort asking the US Supreme Court to overturn the decision.
“Simply, states do not have the power to keep Trump off the ballot. Period. These efforts are fueled by partisan politics and not the rule of law,” said Attorney General Alan Wilson. “If you don’t want to vote for Trump, then don’t vote for him. But based on major polls, there are many who do, and they should be able to cast their ballot for him without confusion and manufactured chaos.”
Maine has also reached a similar decision but it will not be enacted until the US Supreme Court makes its determination.
