COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — All eyes may be on the race to the White House, but Midlands residents have plenty of chances to let their voices be heard before November. Good Morning Columbia has the latest.
The Richland County Elections and Voter Registration Office will open satellite absentee precincts on Tuesday at the following locations:
- Garners Ferry Adult Activity Center, 8620 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins
- Ballentine Community Center, 1009 Brickely Road
- Adult Activity Center, 7494 Parklane Road, Columbia
- Richland County Council Chambers, second floor, 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia
- Voter Registration and Elections Main Office, 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia
These locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, until June 10.
Richland County will also be holding a special election on Tuesday for the Richland County Council District 10 seat. That’s the seat formerly held by Kelvin Washington. Governor Nikki Haley forced Washington to vacate his seat for crimes deemed to be immoral.
Back in February, the former district 10 councilman was sentenced to probation and fined for failing to pay nearly half a million dollars in taxes. Washington is also facing DUI charges after rear-ending another vehicle.
Five people are in the running to replace Washington. They are:
- Helen Taylor Bradley
- Mary Kirkland Jackson
- Jerome Marvin Miller
- Dalhi Myers
- Bernice Scott

If none of the candidates receives more than 50 percent of the votes cast in the special primary election, the two candidates with the most votes will move on to the June 14 runoff.
You also have the chance to learn a little more about the candidates vying for the Eleventh Circuit Court. There will be a public forum Tuesday night. Residents are invited to attend and ask the candidates vying to fill the vacant seat of Solicitor Donnie Myers questions.
Myers decided not to seek reelection after being charged with his third alcohol related offense. The forum will take place at Chapin Town Hall, starting at 5:30 p.m.
