Deputies: Two escaped inmates captured in Goose Creek, one still on the run

inmates wanted

Two brothers who escaped from a Dorchester County jail Friday were captured at a Goose Creek home Sunday night while a third inmate remains on the run, Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran said Michael Bryan Chaplin and Matthew Daniel Chaplin surrendered about 9:15 p.m. after SWAT team members surrounded the house at 216 Foxborough Drive in Goose Creek.

Deputies are still searching for 34-year-old Donald Ray Little. Little is about 6-foot-tall and 165 pounds. He was in jail for burglary and drug charges.

Authorities say all three men escaped from the Dorchester County jail in St. George early Friday. They say they stole a truck from a nearby home that was later recovered near College Park Road in Berkeley County Friday.

Officials say they stole another vehicle Friday from Charleston County and were riding in it near College Park Road Saturday when a deputy spotted them and attempted to pull them over. Instead, deputies say, the truck drove through a power line easement and the suspects ran, setting off an eight-hour manhunt that was called off Saturday night.

Cochran said deputies on Sunday learned the Chaplin brothers were at the house in Goose Creek about 1 p.m.. He said SWAT surrounded the house while deputies went to get a search warrant. Once they had it in hand, negotiators contacted the men and they surrendered.

The suspects were returned to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office. A bond hearing has not been set.

Anyone with information about Little’s location is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at (843) 554-1111.
