Help Wanted as South Carolina Students Head Back to Class

The Greenville News reports that classes resume on Tuesday in the Greenville County School District that has more than 74,000 students.
As of Friday, Greenville still had vacancies for 19 full-time and seven part-time teachers. There were also more than two dozen coaching vacancies and the district also needs aides, clerks and workers for after-school programs.
It’s not just a problem in Greenville.
Jane Turner, the director of the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement, says that each year about 4,000 teachers retire in the state. At the same time, South Carolina colleges graduate only about 2,000 new teachers to replace them.
