Jury finds Kershaw County man guilty in 2020 murder case
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Kershaw County jury has found a man guilty of a January 15, 2020 murder, says the Fifth Circuit Solicitor Office.
Cam’ron Ezekiel Hyatt was convicted of the January 15, 2020 murder of Thomas Keitt, Jr.
Hyatt and a codefendant is accused of luring Keitt to a location early on January 15, 2020 where he was then shot twice in the head.
A passerby notified law enforcement in the early morning hours that they had found Mr. Keitt’s body behind his white Cadillac sedan near the Sand Mines in the area of Green Hill Road, say investigators.
The victim’s phone and wallet were missing from the scene, but detectives say cell phone records placed the defendant’s phone near the area where the victim’s body was found.
Also, the records showed communications from Hyatt to Keitt’s phone just hours before his body was found.
Additional text messages recovered from Hyatt’s phone showed conversations between two people about disposing the victim’s cell phone and wallet, removing shell casings from the scene, and getting rid of the alleged murder weapon.
Investigators say a fingerprint belonging to the defendant was also found on the victim’s vehicle as part of the investigation.
Hyatt, who was 17 at the time of the murder is awaiting sentencing but was convicted on Thursday, March 7.
