SLED clears state agencies over non-citizen voter registration claims
(WPDE) — SLED said claims that state agencies were attempting to get non-citizens registered to vote are unfounded.
Governor Henry McMaster requested SLED look into the claims.
The request was prompted after State Representative Adam Morgan said that a non-citizen contacted him saying she was given a voter registration form by the State Dept. of Health and Human Services, even after telling them she wasn’t eligible to vote.
SLED said federal law requires agencies to provide those forms when people apply for benefits and the first question on the form asks if someone is a citizen. Anyone who selects no, the form clearly states – do not complete the form.
Governor McMaster reacted to the report saying in part, “The report confirms the integrity of South Carolina’s voter registration system, as previous official audits have confirmed.”
