Richland County Penny Tax Referendum passed
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Voters in Richland County will have a say on the newly proposed Transportation Penny Tax Referendum this November.
The county council passed the referendum for the third time on Tuesday. The referendum’s passing means it will appear on the general ballot in November.
Voters will decide to extend the Penny Tax which expires in 2026.
Council members say the estimated transportation costs to be paid from the proceeds of the new penny are approximately $4.5 billion.
That’ll go towards projects for county advancement, community investment, and enhancing the Comet transit system.
