Columbia Homeowner Shaken up After House Shot at Overnight
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Columbia Police are investigating a shooting, they say happened Tuesday morning at Jaggers Plaza, sending one victim to the hospital.
Police said on December 27, shortly after midnight, the suspects began shooting into a residence on Jaggers Plaza. One victim was shot in the hip and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Home owner, Charline Johnson, said 32 shells were collected from her house, and some are still in the walls.
The bullet that hit her 20-year-old son was only inches away from striking a one-year-old child, Johnson said.
“When you’re in your home, your home is supposed to be your comfort zone,” Johnson said.
The Johnson family’s comfort zone was shattered by multiple rounds of bullets.
“All I heard was a lot of gunshots and I thought something fell,” Johnson said.
To Johnson’s surprise, her home was being shot up by unknown suspects.
“I tried to get up and see what was going on, next thing I know there were a lot of bullet holes and then my son said he got shot,” Johnson said.
The aftermath was evident.
“There are holes all throughout my kitchen area, and hallway,” Johnson said. “This is crazy.”
Bullet holes are throughout the inside and outside of the Johnson family’s home. Several windows are blown out and boarded up.
“There are always shootings going on in the cut all the time,” Johnson said. “The police will come out, but nothing is really being done about it. You’re almost immune to the sound itself, until it’s actually hitting your home.”
Johnson said she hopes this shooting will cause for a stronger police presence.
“More city patrolmen going around our neighborhood would be great,” Johnson said.
The Columbia Police Department tells ABC Columbia that they are investigating this shooting. For now, Johnson’s boarded windows remind her that she doesn’t feel safe in her own home.
“There are plenty windows, but the windows are irrelevant if bullets are coming through my brick wall into my home,” Johnson said.
