South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested a man they say attacked them after being pulled over for driving under the influence.

According to SCHP officials, a citizen saw a vehicle on I-26 hit construction cones, go off the road, and swerve up the embankment on Interstate 26 near the Azalea Road exit.

North Charleston police found the driver, identified as 24-year-old Paul William Cooper, and brought him to the scene where SCHP troopers found marijuana on him and arrested him for suspicion of DUI.

Troopers said that Cooper was uncooperative, managed to unbuckle himself, and kicked a state trooper. They restrained him but he got loose a second time and started to beat his own head against the laptop mounted to the front seat.

He also reportedly threatened to hunt the trooper down and kill him.

SCHP officials had to call North Charleston Police to take custody of him because their cruisers have a cage inside where Cooper could be properly restrained.

Cooper is charged with resisting arrest. threatening the life of an official, driving under the influence, and simple possession of marijuana.

He was granted a bond of $11,607.
