Cab Driver Charged With Attempted Murder

Columbia, SC (WOLO)– A Columbia cab driver is in custody after police say he shot at a passenger he thought was trying to leave the car without paying. Police say Vincent Laben is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The incident happened around 11pm Tuesday night outside the Clarion Hotel on Gervais St. According to police Laben, a driver for Royal Cab Company, had an argument with a female passenger when he thought she was going to get out of the cab with out paying. Following the argument, police say, Laben fired two shots at her with an assault rifle. A man, who was in the area at the time detained Laben after the shooting until CPD officers arrived on the scene. No one was injured.
