South Carolina: 4th Worst State for Women’s Equality

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) –

South Carolina is the fourth worst state when it comes to women’s equality, according to a Wallet Hub study.

Women’s rights in the United States have made leaps and bounds since the 19th amendment passed in 1920, but many women still struggle to break through the glass ceiling especially in the work force.

According to the Center for American Progress, women make up the majority of the population and 49 percent of the college-educated labor force. However, women constitute “only 25 percent of executive- and senior-level officials and managers, hold only 20 percent of board seats, and are only 6 percent of CEOs.”

Few experts dispute that there is an earnings gap between women and men, but there is a disagreement when it comes to the proper method of measuring that disparity. According to the National Women’s Law Center, nearly two-thirds of minimum-wage workers across the nation are female. Unfortunately, women still have too few voices in government to help them achieve full social and economic equality in the near future.
