Armed Homeowner Catches Suspect in Manhunt

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – An armed homeowner was able to keep a wanted man at bay as he waited for deputies to respond in Kershaw County, Tuesday.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said Christopher Cravets, 21, who was wanted on armed robbery charges, had run from a residence on Seminole Way in Elgin a few hours before.

Deputies responded to that home looking for Cody Jackson, 26, who was a suspect in the theft of two automobiles. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said Jackson tried to run away and made it several hundred yards before a deputy took him down.

While the deputy was dealing with Jackson, Sheriff Matthews said Cravets, who was wanted on charges stemming from an armed robbery on August 18, escaped from the same house.

KCSO said it brought in bloodhounds, along with a SLED helicopter to look for Cravets for several hours. Deputies made contact with a homeowner in the area around 1 p.m. Tuesday, alerting him to Cravets’ presence in the area. After authorities left, the homeowner said he found Cravets hiding in his car.

Cravets is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and burglary. He has previously served prison time. KCSO said Jackson has a lengthy arrest record, having recently been released from prison.

Both men are bring held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
