Milands ‘Dreamer’s Rally at Statehouse After Repeal

COLUMBIA,SC (WOLO)- Hundreds of people came together at the Statehouse on Tuesday in Support of the Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals(DACA) protesting the move by the White House.

Midlands Dreamers tell ABC Columbia their dream could soon become a nightmare.

“I am fearful that we might get deported,” DACA recipient, Bianca Arizaga said.

“It’s very scary because I know that if DACA gets taken away I won’t feel safe,” DACA Recipient, Jorge Olvera said.

Thousands of Dreamers say came here to live the  American Dream

“My dream was to help seniors, so I’m living ,my dream,” Olvera said.  I really enjoy it.”

Olvera, like many dreamers, came to America when he was a child.

Arizaga’s dad brought her over when she was just 3 years old.

“He saw how great this country was and he saw potential,” Arizaga said.

Arizaga spoke in front of a crowd of supporters on Tuesday in hopes that her dream won’t be deferred.

“I rather just stay here and fight as long as I can,” Arizaga said.

Columbia College graduate, Jacqueline Mayorga, said a lot is online the line.

“I won’t be able to practice medicine at all,” Mayorga said. “I won’t be able to legally work, pay taxes or even drive.”

For these dreamers DACA Changed their worlds.

“I was able to apply for jobs all over the country and that’s how I ended up in Ohio and that’s how I’m in Columbia today,” Olvera said.

Now they’re living in fear, but had these words for congress.

“Many of us have children, we’re going to have children, and we’re unable to support them if we can’t have jobs,” Olvera said. “We can’t support them financially.”

“Our parents are here to work hard they’re not here to take anyone’s job,” Mayorga said. “We are here to give back to the economy to give back to the government. We’re not here to mooch off the government. We’re just trying to work hard and make a future for ourselves.”
