More Than 100 Thousand Households Lost Power In Palmetto State
Columbia, SC (WOLO)– The stop-lights on S. Beltline and Bluff been flickering on and off, even businesses around the area were experiencing issues keeping their power on. In the state, more than 100-thousand households have been losing their power because of Irma.
“We have had a number of outages in the Midlandss. Not as much as the coast, but obviously the storm is still moving through, there’s a lot of wind left. So we ask people to please use caution, be prepared, know how to report your outage. Don’t assume your neighbor has reported your outage. You want to make sure to know how to report it because if that happens we can start the restoration process and hopefully get your lights back on soon,” Ginny Jones said, a SCE&G spokesperson said.
Governor McMaster tweeted that SCE&G has more than 25 hundred storm crews working on getting the power back on. He also said, Electric Co-Ops have 250 linesmen out there, and Duke has 6 thousand working across the state.
“Obviously we don’t want to get our crews out in a situation where it’s unsafe, so really until it’s the storm passes we won’t know the extent of the damage. And at that point we’ll start full on restoration and try to get everyone’s lights back on,” Jones said.
Jones says the wind and rain have made it difficult for crews to get out there… that and the sheer number of calls they are receiving. They say they’re getting as many crews out there as fast as they can though.
