2 arrested in connection with shooting that left 1 dead, 1 injured

 

 

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Two men have been arrested in connection with a Saturday night motel shooting that left one dead and another injured, said Sumter PD.

Officers responded to a call about a shooting at Rodeway Inn on N. Washington Street around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.

When officers responded to the scene, they were directed to a room where they found Raekwon Rasheen Reyes Owens, 28, of Webb Street, dead.

Additionally, a 25-year-old woman was found shot.

She was later taken to a Columbia hospital where she remains in stable condition, according to the police department.

Another Sumter woman was also found in the room but was not injured during the gunfire.

The suspects and victims are all considered acquaintances.

In connection to the shooting 34-year-old Tevon Demetrius Guess, of Pinewood, was identified as a suspect in the case and he was arrested on Sunday morning, Jan. 26.

Guess is charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Another suspect was later identified as Melvin Shirell Belle, 39, of Anderson Street, and he turned himself in late Wednesday afternoon.

Belle is being charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Both men were booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Investigators said additional charges are pending.
