Goose Creek, S.C. (WCIV)–The Goose Creek Police Department has ended its social media series highlighting Black employees during Black History Month as a result of racist comments levied at those featured in the series, the police department said in a social media post.

The local police department asked its employees to provide a snippet they wanted to share with the community. However, the police agency said several employees were subject to racist comments.

“Unfortunately, the amount of hatred, racism and negativity that has been received on these posts in unfathomable,” the agency said in a post on social media. “Honestly, people should be ashamed.”

The post continues: “Our employees do not deserve to be the subject of social media outrage. We will internally celebrate and appreciate the different viewpoints, perspectives, and cultures our employees have to offer, not only to the Police Department but the City as a whole.”

It follows a similar trend.

The North Charleston Police Department was forced to turn off its comment section on Facebook and other social media platforms as a result of racist comments its employees received on Black History Month posts.

“Unfortunately, we have seen many racist comments on our Black History Month posts,” North Charleston police said in a post on social media. “These are totally unacceptable.”

It was not immediately made known if North Charleston police plan to continue its series celebrating Black employees during Black History Month.
