Columbia Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Pays for Kids to See Black Panther

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- Marvel’s Black Panther is on pace to be a huge blockbuster, shattering pre-sale ticket records and leaving theaters with few tickets left on opening weekend. Luckily for some kids in the Midlands, a group of fraternity brothers is paying for them to see the movie.

On Saturday, February 16th, a hundred boys from our area will get to watch Black Panther at no cost thanks to the Omicron Phi chapter of Omega Psi Phi.

“We wanted to pull as many kids as we can and we came up with the goal of identifying 100 young men to take them to the movies so we all can indulge in this film,” said chapter president Roscoe Patterson.
The students are mostly elementary and middle schoolers from schools where the members are mentors but others boys are taking part as well. The brothers say their effort is all about setting positive examples.
“I’m hoping it means a lot to the kids every time they see this movie going forward, maybe they will think about the guys wearing purple and gold who took them and maybe they will want to one day play that same role and uplift kids who come after them.I hope it means a lot to them, it definitely means a lot to us,” said Patterson.
