Governor McMaster announces One SC Fund to help with the loss of SNAP benefits
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Governor Henry McMaster held a press conference with community and state leaders to announce that the Central Carolina Community Foundation has activated the One SC Fund in response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) announcement that federal funding for SNAP (food stamps) benefits will be halted beginning on Saturday, November 1.
During a 10:30 a.m. Tuesday press conference Governor McMaster said the fund will be put in place to help people in need that have been impacted by the loss of SNAP benefits as the government shutdown continues to toll on.
The government shutdown is now into its 4th week as votes in Congress continue to fail with Republican and Democrats at odds on healthcare being a big topic of debut.
The One SC Fund was established in 2015 after Hurricane Joaquin as South Carolina’s coordinated philanthropic response to disasters.
Governor McMaster said the campaign will help regional food banks and local feeding partners across the state.
According to the SC Dept. of Social Services, there are more than 556,000 South Carolinians, representing 266,000 households, who received federal SNAP benefits in September 2025, totaling approximately $104 million.
