Bill would allow liquor stores to open on Sundays

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Efforts are underway for another push to allow liquor stores in South Carolina to be open on Sundays.

This month, a House bill moved to the Judiciary Committee for consideration.

If approved, licensed retailers could sell liquor between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the afternoon on Sundays.

Critics of the bill argue it pressures small shops to open seven days a week, while others want to protect religious beliefs.

The bill must still pass both the House and the Senate before heading to the governor’s desk.
